Drought Conditions Reduced in Maine

Maine Drought Monitor - May 14, 2026

The latest drought map for Maine shows improving conditions.

Currently, about 11 percent of the state is experiencing severe drought, down from 22 percent earlier this week.

Severe drought conditions are now present in the southern portion of the state, including all of Cumberland and York counties, as well as portions of Androscoggin and Oxford counties.

The reduction in severe drought comes as forecasters say rainfall will occur less often in the latter part of May.

Roughly 44 percent of Maine remains under moderate drought conditions, stretching from the Midcoast and portions of Downeast Maine to northern Piscataquis and Somerset counties

About 24 percent of the state is abnormally dry, including portions of Washington and Hancock counties, extending up to western Aroostook County.

For the first time in a while, there exists a portion of the state under no drought classification. There is no advisory condition covering 21 percent of Maine, including most of Aroostook County and part of Washington County.
