The Maine CDC has updated its Freshwater Fish Consumption Advisories because of contamination from forever chemicals, known as PFAS.
The agency says elevated levels of one especially harmful PFAS chemical – perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) – were found in Sandy Stream in Freedom, Knox, and Unity and in Sebasticook River in Winslow.
People are advised to not eat any fish species caught in one stretch of Sandy Stream.
A total of 28 waterbodies in Maine currently have a freshwater consumption advisory.
