A member of the Trump administration is touting a former paper mill in Penobscot County as a breakthrough energy storage facility.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright appeared at the former Lincoln Paper and Tissue plant Wednesday, where a massive battery system is being built.

The company Form Energy is constructing the facility, which is designed to keep power going for days during severe weather events.

Wright was joined at the site by Senator Susan Collins and former Governor Paul LePage, who is running for the 2nd District Congressional seat.

The Lincoln storage facility is planned as one of the largest in the world, with the ability to delivery electricity to 65,000 households.

The project received a nearly $150 million federal grant in 2024, with construction expected to begin in 2028.
