A 1-year-old was hospitalized after a driver struck an ICE vehicle in Sanford Thursday morning.

Sanford Police say they were called to the area at ICE’s request, after agents said a person they were detaining reversed their vehicle and hit an ICE vehicle.

Police said the child was not properly secured in their child safety seat and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Maine DHHS was also contacted after officers learned that the person’s two children, ages two and nine, had been left alone in a nearby home.

Sanford police said they were not involved in any immigration enforcement operation, and only responded to the scene to ensure the well-being of those involved and protect public safety.

Details about the driver of the vehicle were not immediately available as of Thursday.
