The popular Cadillac Summit Road at Acadia National Park will be closed to motor vehicles as a result of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Maine Senator Susan Collins said essential visitor services at Acadia will continue.

She said closing Acadia during peak fall foliage season would cause serious economic harm to local businesses and workers.

Acadia National Park attracts nearly 4 million visitors annually and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity in Hancock County.

Cadillac Summit Road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
