Retired veteran, former Pentagon policy writer and corporate accountant David Evans is the latest entry into the race to unseat Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins.

Evans lives in Aroostook County and announced his candidacy overnight Wednesday morning.

He’s calling his campaign “Move Maine Forward” and seems to be downplaying his run as a Democrat, mentioning his party affiliation only once in a lengthy news release.

Evans becomes the eighth Democratic candidate to oppose Collins, along with two Republicans so far.

Evan’s stated priorities include cutting taxes by targeting government inefficiency, lowering household energy costs through what he calls “long-term, low-cost energy solutions” and creating a federally based Property Tax Relief Fund to offset rising local costs in states and towns.

He did not seem to have a campaign website operating as of early Wednesday morning.

Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran and oysterman Graham Platner and Jordan Wood, a former chief-of-staff for California Congresswoman Katie Porter, are the most well-funded and high-profile Democrats in the race so far.

Governor Janet Mill is term limited and has expressed interest in entering the Democratic primary to unseat Collins but has said she won’t make a decision until November.

Evans also worked as a corporate accountant for Disney Worldwide Shared Services, supporting ABC, ESPN, and other Disney lines of business.
