Federal investigators seize supposed Native American scalp from Maine auctioneer

The FBI is investigating whether a Native American scalp seized from an auctioneer in Fairfield is authentic or not.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the scalp, which supposedly belonged to an Apache Native American, was seized in May from Poulin’s Antiques and Auctions on Route 201.

Selling Native American human remains is a federal crime, but no charges have been filed in the case.

U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee says that if the remains are determined to belong to a Native American of a particular tribe, efforts will be made to repatriate the remains back to the tribe for internment.
