Investigators say welding was the cause of a fire at an auto business in Richmond Monday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived to find fire in the garage at A&W Auto Sales and Service on Brunswick Road.

Investigators say the fire was caused by someone welding on a vehicle in the garage, which spread to other vehicles in the yard and destroyed the garage as well as an apartment above it.

One garage employee suffered a minor burn but didn’t need to be hospitalized.
