A former Maine police sergeant is accused of tampering with evidence related to a missing person investigation.

Former Washburn police sergeant Chandler Cole faces multiple charges, including aggravated forgery and tampering with public records.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Cole was the last known person to see Erik Foote, who was reported missing in February. Foote was last seen on January 30th near the Freshies in Presque Isle.

Washburn police turned the investigation over to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office after noting discrepancies in Cole’s reports.

Cole is set to appear in court on May 8th.
