Police arrested three men and seized more than 2,600 marijuana plants in Machias on Thursday.

According to the Bangor Daily News, drug investigators believe the illegal marijuana operation may have a connection with Chinese-linked marijuana grow operations that have sprung up along the I-95 corridor over the last three years.

After raiding the Machias property on Thursday, police arrested 52-year-old Ming Li and 61-year-old Peng Yu Chan, both of Machias. 60-year-old Dongyang Li of Brooklyn, New York was also taken into custody. The three were charged with two counts of felony drug trafficking.

Machias Police Chief Keith Mercier says all three are not U.S. citizens.

In addition to the plants, law enforcement also seized 100 pounds of processed cannabis.
