The town manager in Sabattus has been cleared of allegations of misconduct.

According to the Sun Journal, an independent investigation into Timothy Kane was launched to probe allegations that he was trying to halt the growth of the local fire department. Kane argued that he was trying to prevent tax increases for residents.

Rob Gayton, who’s now serving as interim fire chief, put together a document expressing no confidence in Kane after the resignation of former Fire Chief Troy Cailler in May. The document was signed by dozens of residents.

The Sabattus Board of Selectmen reviewed the investigation during a meeting on Tuesday and cleared Kane of wrongdoing.
