Maine updated their list of threatened and endangered species to include eight new species.

According to the Bangor Daily News, two species were added to the endangered list, the saltmarsh sparrow and the Ashton’s cuckoo bumble bee.

Six other species were added to Maine’s threatened list, including the Margined Tiger Beetle, the Tri-Colored Bat and four types of birds.

Loss of habitat is the cause for most of these species’ decrease in population, but the Tri-Colored Bat’s population has dropped dramatically due to white nose syndrome, a fungus that affects bats during their hibernation months and often leads to starvation.
