Gas prices in Maine as well as nationwide have seen a slight drop in recent days.

The latest reporting from AAA Northern New England shows the state average for a gallon of gas hit $4.28 on Thursday, compared to $4.42 a month ago.

A year ago, a gallon of gas in Maine was $3.00.

The national average on Thursday was $4.23, down from $4.27 a week ago.

But AAA says that with crude oil prices sitting at over $100 a barrel, price drops at the pump will be limited.

The report came the same day the Maine Department of Energy Resources said heating oil in the state hit another record high of $6.05 a gallon on Monday.

Celina Cunningham, Acting Commissioner of DOER, said: “I encourage Maine people to stay informed of current prices, review incentive options through Efficiency Maine, and to contact their Community Action Agency if they need immediate relief.”

The department says residents with a standard 275-gallon oil tank will pay $750 than they did a year ago, before the war with Iran began.
