A 51-year-old motorcyclist is dead after police say he crashed into a utility pole in Wales.

Androscoggin County deputies say the crash took place on Route 197, also known as Litchfield Road, in Wales around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say a motorcycle driven by Steven Caouette of Litchfield failed to negotiate a curve, left the road and hit a utility pole, causing the pole to break and fall into the roadway.

Caouette was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene
