Nearly $13 million is on its way to help develop affordable housing projects in Maine.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the money is being made available through tax credits granted by MaineHousing.

The money will go to seven projects, including 141 units for older adults in Bath, Portland and Windham. Some of the funding will also be used to build 179 units for families in Portland, Biddeford and Mexico.

MaineHousing estimates the creation of the new rental homes will lead to the creation of $116 million in economic activity in Maine.
