Man convicted of killing Maine girl in the 1980s seeks new trial

A man convicted of killing a 12-year-old girl from Maine in 1988 is seeking a new trial.

Dennis Dechaine is serving a life sentence for kidnapping, sexually assaulting and murdering Sarah Cherry.

Cherry was kidnapped from a home in Bowdoin while she was babysitting.

New advanced DNA testing released in November found no conclusive links between Dechaine and some key DNA samples in the case.

According to the Portland Press Herald, he’s asking the court to consider granting him an evidentiary hearing for a new trial.
