Man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after getting hit by train in Lewiston

A man is in the hospital after getting hit by a train in Lewiston on Thursday morning.

Lewiston Police said the pedestrian was hit between Spring Street and Cottage Street around 10:40 a.m.

First responders arrived to find the man underneath a train car and had to extricate him.

He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The train is believed to have been heading south from Auburn when the accident happened.

The investigation is being led by the Railroad Authority.

Rail cars were blocking traffic on Libby Avenue and Strawberry Avenue as of noon on Thursday.
