A naked man who was reportedly trying to evade police had to be rescued after he jumped into a canal in Lewiston.

Police say they received calls about a man who was seen running naked in downtown Lewiston around 9:30 a.m. Friday. They believe he was under the influence of drugs.

According to the Sun Journal, the Lewiston Fire Department responded to Canal Street to rescue the man, who reportedly jumped into a canal but couldn’t get out.

Firefighters put on cold-water rescue suits to get him out. He was then taken into custody and brought to a local hospital.
