Officer extinguishes flames after fireworks start fire on Old Orchard Beach

An incident involving fireworks at Old Orchard Beach nearly turned into a complete disaster Friday night.

Someone set off fireworks on the beach, causing the dune grass to catch fire.

The fire spread in the direction of the Surf 6 restaurant.

Luckily, an officer arrived at the scene less than one minute after the fireworks went off.

The officer was able to extinguish the flames.

According to CBS 13, the use of consumer fireworks in Old Orchard Beach is prohibited and carries fines of up to $500 and possible criminal charges.
