One Dead in Milton House Fire

One person is dead after a house fire on Saturday in Milton, New Hampshire, along the border with Maine.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office reports the fire took place on Willey Road in Milton at about 8:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Firefighters say the person who called to report the fire said they got out safely, but one person was trapped inside.

They say when the fire crews arrived at the scene, they had difficulty accessing the home because the driveway leading to it had not been cleared of snow.
Firefighters say they faced heavy fire conditions, with the second floor collapsing.
They say they located a dead person after the fire was extinguished. The name of the victim is being withheld. An autopsy was scheduled at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Milton Fire Department received assistance from several agencies from surrounding communities to extinguish the fire.
