Scarborough, Maine (WGAN) Police in Scarborough say the suspect in a shooting at a Walmart parking lot on Wednesday night had been startled by another man who knocked on his vehicle’s window.

36-year-old Bryan Johns, a local transient, was taken into custody and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. He told police he was the shooter after they found him inside of a Jeep in the lot.

According to the Portland Press Herald, police said Johns had been leaving his car in the lot overnight where he had been sleeping in recent days. A man knocked on his window to check on him around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when Johns fired several rounds through the window at him.

The other man, who police don’t believe posed any threat to Johns, fled the area for his safety.

Johns will make his first court appearance Friday. He’s being held on $1,000 cash bail.

He was also taken to the hospital after he slipped on ice and suffered cuts from broken glass.
