Portland man sentenced for roommate’s stabbing death in 2024

A Portland man will spend 16 years behind bars for the killing of his roommate.

Domingus Nobrega was sentenced Monday for the stabbing death of Matthew Merrick in November of 2024.

Nobrega was initially charged with murder but agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter in August.

Merrick, who worked as a cook at Andy’s Old Port Pub, shared an apartment with Nobrega in Portland’s West End.
