Portland Police have announced an arrest in their death investigation from Monday at the Shalom House at 503 Woodford Street, which houses people with metal health illness.

Officers say 40-year-old Shalom House resident Armando Javier Negrete stabbed 40-year-old Marlene McNeill of Gorham, a Shalom House employee, before leaving the building.

They say McNeill suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center, where she died.

Police say they quickly tracked down Negrete on the Shalom House property and arrested him on murder charges.

He’s in Cumberland County Jail.

Portland Police say an investigation remains ongoing.
