Sprinkler System Helps Contain Fire with Heavy Smoke in Scarborough

Scarborough Fire Department

Scarborough firefighters are crediting a sprinkler system with containing a fire with heavy smoke from spreading beyond one room at an apartment building.

Five fire departments were initially sent to the scene because of the amount of smoke.

Firefighters say damage was contained to one unit in the 76,000 square foot multiple tenant building at 10 Snow Canning Rd in Pine Point Sunday morning.

They say the building was also being operated as a cannabis facility.

Crews say they crews were on scene for about two hours, overhauling the fire room and providing ventilation to remove the smoke condition from the large industrial building.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire, and everyone was able to safely evacuate the building when the fire alarm system sounded.

There were no injuries to any residents or firefighters.

The fire was reported at 10:01 am Sunday. Scarborough firefighters were assisted on scene by Old Orchard Beach, Biddeford, Saco and Portland Fire Departments.
