Train Derails in the College Town of Orono

On Saturday, in Orono, a train derailment occurred around the Main Street area and near the Penobscot Valley Country Club.

13 of the 32 CSX train cars derailed.

According to the Orono Fire Department, no injuries were report nor any spills, hazards, or leaks that could’ve affected the nearby Penobscot River.

Crews had a tough time fighting the fire that was caused by the derailment due to Saturday’s temperatures and the location of the crash.

The rail line will be closed until it’s the track is fixed and inspected.
