Victims injured in explosion and fire at Searsmont lumber mill remain hospitalized

The president of Robbins Lumber Company as well as the vice president of sales were injured in the explosion at the lumber mill in Searsmont on Friday.

President James A. Robbins and Vice President of Sales Alden Robbins are being treated at Mass General in Boston, along with Alden Robbins’ daughter and EMS volunteer Lily Robbins.

On Monday, MaineHealth said that two people have been discharged from Maine Medical Center in Portland since Saturday, while another was transferred to another facility.

The ATF is working alongside the Maine Fire Marshal’s office to investigate the explosion and fire.

As of Monday, eight people, including first responders and mill employees, were still hospitalized.

Firefighter Andrew Cross was killed while responding to the scene.

More details about the investigation are expected at a Tuesday afternoon press conference.

Donations have been pouring in from the Searsmont community and beyond to help the victims and families who have been impacted.

Hammond Lumber Company announced Monday it was making a $100,000 donation to help the victims.
