Maine Forest Rangers continue to warn about high fire danger in the southern and western part of the state as wildfires have ignited in the region.

A fire along the Maine border in New Hampshire had burned 300 acres in the White Mountain National Forest as of Monday afternoon.

In addition, a difficult to contain wildfire in Casco kept crews busy over the weekend, and is still being monitored.

The fires come as more than half of Maine is under severe drought, while portions of Southern Maine, including Portland, are under the more intense extreme drought condition.

Maine Forest Rangers had increased high fire danger to cover all but the most northwest section Saturday as there were high winds present.
