If you are planning to see “Whiplash,” you might not want to read this blog.  There are major spoilers here.

My husband and I are slowly watching (or trying to watch) all the Academy Award winners from this past year.  This weekend, we saw “Whiplash.”  Just because it’s an Academy Award winner, doesn’t mean it’s good.  In my opinion, it was AWFUL!!  I like the supporting actor, J.K. Whatshisface, but the idea / storyline of the movie was terrible.

Any music teacher (any TEACHER for that matter) who abuses their students the way this guy did to his student in the movie, would either get arrested or beat up.  The way he used intimidation and insults to get “their best result” is just ridiculous.  No one would respond to that.  Not even Charlie Parker.  The reference to Charlie that he makes in the movie is inaccurate.  I mean, it doesn’t have to be, I suppose, it is a fictional movie.  In that sense it can be as bad as it wants and man, it WAS BAD!!

If you liked this movie, please let me know because for the life of me, I don’t know who might think this a good film.  Except, I suppose, the Academy of We Pick Really Awful Movies.

Sigh.
