Don’t Judge a Dog by its Breed

There is something I feel that we as dog owners must sadly overcome, and that is predisposed stigma. The common thought that if you encounter a particular breed of dog, that dog will immediately attack you and show violence towards all those around it simply due to the fact that it is of a certain breed.  This is, of course, simply not true.  But is that so simple of a concept to grasp after all?

It seems to me, and to all those I know who have a dog that has been deemed a “violent” or “aggressive” breed, that this is indeed a simple misconception of these lovable pooches that ignorant people carry with unabated assurance, despite what we with those particular breeds may say. Dobermans, Pits, Boxers, Rottweiler, the list goes on, are not “aggressive” just because they are the breed they are.  IF, and I want to emphasize IF you encounter a dog of that breed and they do display aggression or violence that is unprovoked, you must not blame the breed, or the dog, but the owner (or past owners) of that dog.  It is after all not the fault of an animal whom if it were to open a door with its paws we would be impressed and think that it is super intelligent. It is the cause of abuse by the real “violent” and “aggressive” breed that I am going to over-simplify by calling “dirt-bags”.  That is, people who abuse and neglect an innocent dog that truly wants nothing more than your love, companionship, and loyalty, AND in turn wants to give those emotions back in a way that nothing but a dog can give us.

So never forget, before you go spouting off ignorant bulls*** about dog breeds being violent, give it just an extra 2 seconds of brain power, form your own opinion based on facts.  Facts such as you actually get introduced to the dog and its owner before judging the dog simply based on its breed.

In light of the current political correct atmosphere we are all forced to tolerate where fake and phony people claim to be “offended” by everything, it’s amazing how certain people judge a dog by its breed, but if I were to look at a person and make a judgement or assumption based simply on their race or gender or religious belief, the world would be up in arms calling me a bigot, ignorant, racist, something-a-phobic this or something-a-phobic that.  So just remember that dogs want to love us, not harm us, and think before you make dumb accusations that make you sound like an uninformed dope, and make me hate you.

love you,
