There was an article that we talked about a little bit in the “What’s Trending” part of the show about a store that was charging more money for female plus sized clothes than any other clothing, including men’s plus size clothing.  That story has been bugging me for days.

If you are meeting me for the first time, chances are, you wouldn’t consider me overweight.  (or, maybe you would depending on your perspective)  I eat fairly healthy and wear single digit sized jeans.  I, however, have been overweight my whole life and still consider myself overweight in my brain.  Like so many, I have lost and gained 10, 20, 30, 50, 70 pounds over and over again.  I constantly, daily, make decisions on what or what not to eat. 

Fat discrimination is alive and well and for a female, it is the worst.  My experience has taught me this for years.  I just need to say that being overweight does not mean that you are lazy, have poor hygiene and are less intelligent than others, however, in the working world, fat employees may receive fewer promotions and may earn less than their thinner counterparts. 

It is not true that people who are considered overweight have poor eating habits or don’t exercise.  You can be healthy and still be considered “fat” by society’s standards.

Being fat also does not mean that you do not have any willpower.  Most people have weight “set points” and to push your body to lose weight beyond that point is very, very difficult.  Factors like age, genetics and dieting history all contribute to that number we see on the scale. 

Not everyone wants to be skinny and the more people, especially women, who stand up and say something like that, the more people will look at someone who is a perfect size 14, 16, 18 or more as the beauty that she is.

The latest “IT” plus-sized model is a size 10 and she’s gorgeous.  I would love to look like her in a bikini.

A healthy, beautiful body doesn’t come in a package with a number on it…  Just sayin’.
