Many of the “trending” stories of the day have a “who cares” factor for me, but this Rachel Dolezal story is fascinating to me. I can’t put myself in anyone’s shoes, so if she identifies more with being black, I can only say that’s ok from a white woman’s perspective, but DON’T LIE ABOUT IT. One thing that came out of this is I am able to say it’s not okay to bash ANY race. Black, white or whatever. (I NEVER understood, from the time that I knew racism existed, how the color of your skin would dictate how people think of you. Eye color is the same thing, right? Why don’t we discriminate against people with hazel eyes, or blue or green or brown? It’s the same thing.) The bottom line for me with the information that we have so far about her is that she has MAJOR ISSUES and needs help, but who doesn’t?
She spoke with Matt Lauer this morning on the Today Show. She seems quite calm, but VERY evasive with his questions and he didn’t probe too much. Check it out:
